As a fourth generation lawyer, Shelby B. Burns always knew we wanted to be a litigator in the courtroom. Shelby graduated from the University of Houston before attending South Texas College of law. While in school, he participated in every moot court and mock trial program he could.

Upon passing the bar exam, Shelby accepted a position with a premier Texas DWI firm, going into trial right away. After a few years working in DWI defense, he decided he wanted to handle all criminal cases. He and his sister joined forces and started Burns, Peña and Associates.

Shelby handles all criminal matters in Harris and the surrounding communities. He is very active in the state legislature helping to craft new laws on criminal justice.
